You can brag about how you’re great at driving manual transmission and being a third pedal master – or you can prove it by entering the TREMEC Stick Shift Shootout at the 2020 NMRA Spring Break Shootout in Bradenton, Florida, February 27 through March 1, 2020.
Manual transmission cars competing in the NMRA’s most popular racing class, True Street, are eligible for the 26th annual TREMEC Stick Shift Shootout. Open to anyone with a street-legal Ford vehicle with a Ford powerplant, True Street lets competitors enjoy the thrill of drag racing in a safe environment. True Street class is broken into seven elapsed time groups, from 9 seconds to 15 seconds. It starts with a 30-mile street cruise to prove all entries are street capable and legal. Then the field is organized in the staging lanes for a cooldown period, during which no changes outside of tire pressure is allowed and hoods must remain closed. After cooldown, all remaining competitors will make three back-to-back quarter-mile passes to set an elapsed time average. The quickest three-pass average in each elapsed time group wins. For the full rules, visit the NMRA website. All True Street and NMRA safety rules will be applied to the 2020 TREMEC Stick Shift Shootout.
From the overall True Street group, the eight quickest manual transmission cars will be chosen to compete for the TREMEC Stick Shift Shootout title. The TREMEC Stick Shift Shootout will be held on Sunday during normal eliminations using a match race-style ladder, with handicapped starts based on each competitor’s established dial-in. No breakout rules will be in effect, with first-to-the-finish being the winner. The TREMEC Stick Shift Shootout winner will receive a McLeod Racing prize package valued at approximately $1,300, a custom trophy and their Mustang featured on the TREMEC Blog. The runner-up will be awarded a McLeod Racing $500 product voucher and runner-up plaque.
“Gear-banging manual transmissions have always been a part of the NMRA, and this year’s TREMEC Stick Shift Shootout will truly showcase the fastest manually shifted Mustangs on the planet,” said Steve Wolcott, Co-Founder of the NMRA. “Last year, we saw huge wheels-up performance from TREMEC Stick Shift Shootout competitors, and this year’s field promises to be even more exciting as racers compete for big prizes and major national bragging rights.”
After completion of the True Street class competition on Saturday, TREMEC will host a True Street Racer appreciation party at the TREMEC trailer while final results are tabulated. True Street racers, their crew and families can attend and enjoy free pizza and drinks. Results will be announced during the racer appreciation party, and the eight TREMEC Stick Shift Shootout competitors revealed (with two alternates) who will race on Sunday for the TREMEC Stick Shift Shootout title.
