You can thank synchronizers for the quick, smooth transitions that you love when shifting your own gears. These unsung heroes in a manual transmission are critical to shift quality and performance.

We want to give you a better understanding of how they work and some of the key technical advancements in the synchros we use in TREMEC transmissions. Read More “Manual Transmission Synchronizers 101”

Clutch Vibrations: Identify, Cause and Solve

This article is to help customers identify the cause of various driveline vibrations and guide them to finding solutions. This month, we are looking at the clutch system and the various possible causes of vibration, how to identify the source and how to remedy it.

Upgrading the transmission in a vehicle often includes changing other related components. The driveshaft angle may change (see our tech article on driveshaft vibration by clicking here). And you will most likely replace the clutch assembly, which is the most important link between the engine and the trans itself. Read More “Clutch Vibrations: Identify, Cause and Solve”

Should I Upgrade to a TREMEC TKO 5-Speed or Magnum 6-Speed?

If you’re thinking about upgrading your muscle car or hot rod to an overdrive manual transmission, one of the key questions you’re probably pondering is, “Should I choose the TREMEC TKO 5-speed or TREMEC Magnum 6-speed?” It’s a question that customers ask us all the time.

People often evaluate the TKO and Magnum only in “5-speed vs. 6-speed” context, which we think is 100 percent the wrong way to approach the decision. The two transmissions use completely different architectures, and, not surprisingly, have several unique characteristics that set them apart. The Differences Between the TREMEC Magnum and TR-6060 6-Speed

People often confuse the original-equipment TREMEC TR-6060 6-speed manual transmission in performance models of the Chevrolet Camaro and Dodge Challenger with its aftermarket sibling, the TREMEC Magnum. While both have six forward gears and one reverse gear, there are many features that differentiate the two transmissions. Read More “The Differences Between the TREMEC Magnum and TR-6060 6-Speed”

High-Performance Camaro Redesigned into Energy-Efficient PHEV with Automated Manual Transmission

Developing innovative technologies that improve vehicle efficiency and enhance mobility is driving the American automotive industry forward. To this end, industry is partnering with government programs and universities to find powertrain solutions to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions.

One such program is a four-year engineering competition sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy and General Motors: the EcoCAR 3 challenge. As part of the Advanced Vehicle Technology Competition, EcoCAR 3 was launched in 2014

Teaching the Next Generation of Skilled Technicians

New technology promises a future of intelligent cars capable of amazing things. But, until automakers figure out a way to build self-repairing vehicles, there will always be a need for skilled technicians.

To keep our cars and trucks in shape, the automotive field is filled with many well-paying employment opportunities – from skilled technicians and mechanics to design engineers. Usually, employers prefer that their workers complete some type of formal education program. Read More “Teaching the Next Generation of Skilled Technicians”

Flat-Towing TREMEC-Transmission Vehicles

A recreational vehicle gives you the freedom to explore our great country. Many people extend this freedom by towing a vehicle behind their RV to use for sightseeing or running to the grocery store once they have set up camp. A TOAD (or dinghy, in RV language) is the extra vehicle you tow behind your motorhome.

With few exceptions, the transmission of every dinghy has limitations as to how far and how fast it can be towed before the transmission will be damaged. This applies to both automatic and manual transmissions. But there are steps you can take to prevent this from happening. Read More “Flat-Towing TREMEC-Transmission Vehicles”
