TREMEC Equipped Cars at the 2017 Detroit AutoRama

TREMEC-2017-Detroit-AutoRama-1

From the prestigious Ridler Award to hundreds of hot rods and muscle cars on display, for many people the Detroit Autorama is the unofficial start of the car show season. TREMEC is a proud sponsor of the event, which reached its 65th anniversary in 2017. To celebrate the occasion, there was a stunt-show jump of a General Lee Dodge Charger on the streets of downtown Detroit!

One of the premier aspects of the Detroit Autorama is the Ridler Award. This is one of the most significant awards in the country for a custom vehicle to compete for. To be considered for the award, the vehicle must make its first public showing at the Detroit Autorama, and it must be operational. There are eight finalists, called the Great 8. The winner is announced on Sunday of the event.

The 2017 winner of the Ridler Award was the Renaissance Roadster owned Nancy and Buddy Jordan and built by Steve Frisbie of Steve’s Auto Restoration out of Portland, Oregon, The 1933 Ford is formed from aluminum and steel panels. The frame is also handmade and rides on independent front and rear suspension. You can read more about the winner here at hotrod.com.

We were thrilled to talk to so many current and future customers in our TREMEC booth. In addition to displaying TREMEC transmissions, we also featured Saldana’s Speed Shop’s 1950 Dodge B-Series truck. The truck is powered by a 392 Mopar crate engine and TREMEC 6-speed, and it oozes patina! Watch for TREMEC-Blog.com to do a Customer Spotlight on this one in the future.

We enjoyed seeing all the TREMEC-equipped vehicles entered in the show. There seemed to be more this year than ever before, and in everything from street rods to pro-touring cars! There were even TREMEC transmissions in three of the Great 8 cars!

We’ve put together this slideshow to highlight some of the TREMEC-equipped vehicles at the Detroit Autorama. Click on an image below to enlarge it and read the caption. Leave us a comment to let us know which was your favorite!

  1. Of course, I’m a little partial with the one I like best…(my 69 Camaro, TORQ) but I can easily say that the car wouldn’t be all that it is without the TKO-500 that allows all the power to be put to the ground. WOW what a transmission..

    1. Thanks for sharing, and we’re very glad that you’re very happy with the TREMEC transmission! We would also like to invite you to submit your car for a future customer spotlight here on our blog. There is a form at the bottom of this post if you’re interested. Thanks!
